An exciting new watersport will be available for the first time at Wimbleball Lake from this month.

Thanks to generous funding from Somerset Council, we've been able to purchase four eFoil boards for Wimbleball Lake on Exmoor.

An eFoil has a surfboard-like deck with a hydrofoil wing underneath. It is powered by an electric motor, controlled by the rider, which lifts the board above the water's surface and allows the rider to glide across the water on the foil alone.

South West Lakes Trust’s Head of Activities, Matt Lennox, said: “We want to enable as many people as possible to get out on the water and experience the outdoors.

“eFoiling opens up watersports to more people than ever before. This exciting new sport offers an easier way to get started, making it perfect for beginners and those who may have found traditional wind sports too demanding. It also doesn’t rely on wind!

“eFoils are a great way to learn the basics of foiling, whether you would like to progress to wing foiling or just have fun on the water.

“Although there are several eFoil schools in Cornwall – including at our Activity Centre at Stithians Lake, near Redruth – we believe this is the first of its kind in Somerset, so it’s a really exciting time for us.”

From July, 1.5-hour instructor-led sessions for up to three people will be available at Wimbleball Lake. Participants must be 12 or over. Sessions cost £99 per person for two or more participants, with one-to-one tuition available at £140.
