January 2025

Hello all, I’m Leon and I am delighted to be the new Head of Fisheries for South West Lakes Trust. I have been a passionate angler all my life and always at my happiest when surrounded or immersed in water.

Angling has always been part of my life from the moment I could walk and hold a rod. Fish and their environment have always held an intense fascination for me. I have been fortunate enough to turn this into a career. Before working for the Trust I owned and operated my own fishing tackle shop in Liskeard. Prior to this I was a lecturer in Fisheries Management and Aquaculture at Sparsholt College in Hampshire.

I have been lucky enough to fish for a huge variety of species in some truly awe-inspiring locations across the globe. This is what really attracted me to working at the Trust, our very special venues. It has been said that fishing is so much more than just catching, and whilst we all love to feel the exhilaration of the take and subsequent fight, sometimes surrounding yourself in a beautiful environment and just being there is enough.

So I am extremely proud to be joining the fantastic team that look after our lakes and rivers, and hope to meet many of you out there on the bank in the near future.
